Peoria, Arizona is 14 miles northwest of Phoenix. It covers a large area of flat desert and sits at the foot of a series of mountain ranges to its north. However, because it was farther from Phoenix than other suburbs, its population didn’t begin to increase rapidly until the 1970s, when it began to become an attractive, less expensive alternative to the closer suburbs of Phoenix. It expanded extremely rapidly in the last 30 years and is now a city full of new housing and modern amenities.
